China Bans the Consumption of Dogs and Cats Meat 中国立法禁吃猫狗肉

I was elated to read on Today (27 January 2010 issue) that China plans to pass a legislation to ban the consumption of cats and dogs meat. Though the legislation is still in its drafting stage and some draft legislation in China may take years to be approved, at least there is some headstart towards animal welfare in China as they are well known for their ill treatment of various animals especially for economic returns. It was also really good to know that there are many individuals in China who love and care to speak up for them and even fight for their rights these recent years.

There are currently votes going on in quite a few websites in China pertaining to whether the Chinese government should pass this legislation. At the moment there were much more support against the legislation on the Sina web. I have attached a blog post from a taiwanese blog 小贤猫咪功夫馆 which contains 4 websites for casting of votes. 很高兴在2010年1月27日的Today读到中国有意立法禁吃狗肉和猫肉。虽然立法还在草拟的阶段，并且可能还要等上还几年才能通过，这已经是一个很好的开始了由其中国是以凌虐动物以谋利闻名遐迩的。还有值得高兴的是现在中国也有许多爱护动物的人愿意挺身为动物们说话和诤取权利。

The Residents 这里的居民

BELLE, a beautiful black and white resident at MSCP. She has quite a numbers of motorist friends.
BELLE，一只以多层停车场为家的黑白美眉。有很多的摩多骑士朋友。


MON(short for MONSTER) is a resident at the void deck. He used to chased the other cats around but now just spend most of his days lazing and sleeping near the bicycle stands.
MON （英文魔鬼的缩写）是组屋底层的居民。他以前喜欢追打其他的猫咪，但他现在大部分的时间都庸懒的在脚车停放处睡觉。


BOB, also a resident at the void deck. He has a bob tail thus he is called BOB. He reminds me of Jia Bao Yu, the male character in the ancient chinese novel 'The Dream of the Red Mansion'.
BOB， 也是组屋底层的居民。他的名字是因他的短尾巴而得来的。他的气质很像红楼梦里的贾宝玉。


THUNDER is a big handsome cat. He is super friendly and thus has many friends including children. He is also a very laidback cat.
THUNDER 是一只英俊又大只的猫。他非常的友善所以他有很多人类朋友包括小孩子。他也是一只很自在放松的猫。

Please do not disturb..... 请勿打扰。。。。。

I am called Bush cos I like to hide in the bushes when I began my life as a community cat. However, after my tail got badly injured and my mummy brought me home, I am now the prince of the house. I was already big as a community cat and now I am even bigger weighing at 8kg. That's it for now...I will tell you next time how I bully the missy of the house. Chow!

我叫布什。我的名字是因为我刚成为社区猫时喜欢躲在树丛中而得来的。不过自从我尾巴严重受伤，我妈咪把我带回家之后，我就变成家里的小王子。还是社区猫的我就已经很庞大，现在更不得了！我现在已经8公斤了。不跟大家多说了。。。下次在告诉大家我是如何欺负家里的那位大小姐。就这样了，再见！

Void Deck also Cannot? 在组屋底层也不行？

Received an email 2 days ago from the TC Property Officer attaching a complaint email from a resident from my block which states:

(a) There are currently about 6-7 stray cats loitering at the loading bay area of blocks *15-*17. This is a disturbing trend.

(b) These stray cats create loud moaning and groaning noises in the wee hours of the night, and this causes sleepless nights to us residents.

(c) These stray cats urinate at the lobby and void deck areas, making the areas unsightly and reeking of urine stench.

(d) If left unadressed, the number of stray cats will definitely multiply as there are currently people who feed these cats in the mornings, afternoons and nights at the void deck and at the MSCP.

The TC Property officer also mentioned that the resident was concerned that if not control, more stray cats may appear and dirty the environments.

This complainant is obviously making allegations without any factual truth and I hope this TC Property Officer could see my points and not pander to such falseful complaints.

There were only 3 sterilised community cats at those 3 blocks for the past 4 years with the exception of 1 sterilised free roaming house cat that has been let out recently. So where are the 6-7 cats? How can sterilised cats multiply?

Has anyone ever heard a cat moans and groans? The complainant is sex deprive or what? And in anyway, I checked with the residents from 4 different units in my block (each unit is facing a diffent part of the estate) about the noise, 3 out of 4 said that they did not hear anything including a student who always stays up between 2am to 4am. One of them said he only heard the noise occasionally which never last more than 2 seconds.

As for the urine at the lobby and void deck, yes there were urine at the void deck but anyone with common sense could tell from the size of the puddles that they were the creation of pet dogs where the irresponsible owners should be held responsible

And with the deterioration of our civic mindedness, our estate cleanliness has been dwindling. I do not deny there were left over cat food by some ghost feeders but they really dwarf in comparisons to the tonnes of other garbage created by the 'two-legged".

This so called 'concerned' resident should appreciate what we, the responsible and dediciated residents have done in controlling the population of the community cats through sterilisation. The environment is also kept clean due to our responsible feeding as well fed cats will not forage the garbage bins for food and through our continuing effort to advise others from feeding irresponsibly.


市镇理事会在2天前发了一封和我住在同一座租屋的1位居民所发出的投诉电邮给我。电邮的内容指说-

(a)位于大牌*15到*17的卸货区有6-7只流浪猫闲晃。这是一个令人不安的趋势。

(b)这些流浪猫在深夜沉吟和伸吟，扰人清梦。

(c)这些流浪猫在电梯通道和租屋底层洒尿导致这些地方脏乱和臭气熏天。

(d)因为有人早、午、晚在租屋底层和多层停车场喂养这些流浪猫。若不及时控制，他们的数量就会增加。

市镇理事会也在电邮中提到说这位居民担心如果不及时控制，猫咪的数量会增加导致环境脏乱。

这位投诉人显然在没有事实根据下胡乱提出投诉。希望市镇理事会能理解我的分析而不会一味的只迎合投诉人无理的投诉。

在这4年来那3座租屋的底层一直都只有3只已经结紮了的社区猫。直到最近才多了一只结紮了的家猫下来闲晃。所以那来的6-7猫？已经结紮了的猫的数量怎么会增加？

有没有人听过猫会沉吟和伸吟的？投诉人是不是缺乏性行为呀？据我向同座的其他4个单位的令居了解(4个单位都面向不同的方向)， 其中有3个说他们并没有听到任何声音(其中一个还是经常深夜2-4点都还没睡觉的学生)。另一位令居则说偶尔有听到猫叫声但是不到2秒钟就结束了。

在组屋底层的确是有尿的痕迹，但是有普通常识的人从小便的份量就会知道那些是狗而不是猫的小便。受惩罚的应该是那些没有责任的狗主。

由于人文素质下滑的关系，我的社区的清洁指数确实施有每况愈下的趋势。我不否认的确有些不负责任的‘瘾性’喂养人没有将吃剩的猫伺料清除。但是比起由‘两只脚的’所制造的其他的垃圾的份量简直是小巫见大巫。

那位投诉人应该庆兴社区里有我们这些尽心又有责任感的人在喂养并且结紮社区里的猫，以防止猫数爆增。有定时喂养的猫咪也不会在垃圾桶里翻找食物， 也因为我们不懈努力的劝阻那些不负责任的喂养人才能令我们的社区拥有干净和正洁的环境。

Feeding the Community Cats 喂养社区猫

Most cat caregivers/feeders will feed their charge in the wee hours of the night, mostly well past 12 midnight. They will also do the feeding discreetly so as not to attract undue attention.

While I understand that they are doing so to avoid harassment, dumping of unwanted pet cats, complaints against the community cats etc, I, however, think that such act would unconsiously invite discrimation against the cats and the act itself. Besides that, it would also be a safety hazard to the caregivers/feeders. As for the dumping of pet cats, I believe the irresponsible owners who wish to dump their cats will still dump their cats anyway cos they no longer have regards for their well being.

I feed my charge between 9-11pm as this is the time where there are less human and vehicular traffic but not too deserted. And in order to prevent inconvenience to others, I will feed them at locations with the minimal of human and vehicular traffic (though such places are hard to come by in our land scarce Singapore，especially in HDB estates). Believe me, I still had my fair share of encounters with perverts even feeding at such hours!

We had heard many outcry from people towards the unfair treatment of the stray cats and dogs by the general public and the authorities. Did we ourselves contribute to such discrimination??? By feeding the community discreetly in the dead hours of the night, are we unconsciously telling people that it is not the right thing to do???


许多喂养社区猫的人通常在午夜12点过后，夜深人静时分才开始喂养社区猫。为了避开他人无谓的注意而必须偷偷摸摸的进行。

他们这样做无疑是为了避免不必要的骚扰、或遭无良的猫主丢弃宠物猫、或使社区猫遭人投诉等等。但是我觉得这样做反而在无形中让其他人歧视社区猫和喂养社区猫的行为。而且，在夜深人静喂养猫咪也会危害喂养人的人身安全。至于那些有心要遗弃他们猫咪的猫主，还是会照样遗弃他们的因为他们已经不管他们的死活了。

我通常在晚间9-11点之间喂养社区猫因为在这段时间比较少车和人经过也不至于太冷清。我也尽量选择比较避静的地方喂养他们以减低对其他人的不便(在人多地少的新加坡，尤其是组屋区，避静的地方更是难寻）。但在这种时段也能让我不止一次的遇上变态佬！

有很多人对于我们的流浪猫狗不被大众和政府机构友善对待深感愤愤不平。但是我们是否得对此负上一些责任呢？？？是不是因为我们偷偷摸摸、深夜喂养社区猫的行为在无形中告诉大家这种行为是错的呢？？？

Change of Blog Title

I have changed my blog title from "This Is It???!!!" to "Kuching of the Little Red Dot":))as I wish that more people will get to know the lovely cats in our homeland. I wish to launch a series of photographs of our community cats all over Singapore in this blog. Pray hard that my DREAMS and plans will come true soon!

我的部落格名称从今天起由“只能这样？？？！！！”改为“小红点之猫”因为我想让更多人认识我们这里可爱的猫咪。我也将在部落格发表一系列位于新加坡各个脚落的社区猫。希望我的梦想和计划可以早日实现！
