So true!

I fully agree with what the blog auther said about "the joy of living with cats is to see them feeling totally secure". It is so well said and it really expressed my feelings so well. The contented looks on my 2 cats especially when they are sleeping never fails to make me smile from ear to ear.

See how dreamy my missy look and it just melts my heart away:)). Same goes for our community cats, I will be elated to see them all safe and contented and happily enjoying their meals. And I will be very anxious throughout the night should either of them failed to turn up for their dinner cos they are my family too.

Are you still eating foie gras?

I don't understand why we could inflict additional sufferings on animals for so called delicacies??? Can we eat these delicacies without guilt??? I know its difficult to get everyone to convert into vegetarian immediately, I am not a vegetarian yet myself, but we have the choice to stay away from these cruelty food. We are their only hope to the end of their miseries.

Missy in the house

Oreo in her "Superman" suit.
Oreo

She came to our house in August 2006. She was a community cat then in another part of my estate taken care of by another caregiver. She was a complaint case and had to be removed before the town council got her.

She was the very first cat that I fostered and the very first cat in my live. She really rules the house now, a real missy and is the apple of her daddy's eye.

Her daddy aka my supporting spouse ('SS') was not very happy of her presence initially. As our house was not cat-proofed, we could not open our windows and have to close all the bedrooms doors (to deny her entry). Her shedding and acrobatic acts were also sources of complaint for SS. But being an intelligent girl, she just know whose heart to buy over. In just a few months time she had her daddy within the control of her paws hahaha, simply amazing! She really adores her daddy...she will go running to him when called and will sit near or next to him during TV time. It makes me jealous sometimes cause she don't response to me the way she responses to her daddy.

Another bureaucracy to tackle?

HDB (which stands for Housing & Development Board) will have a new department known as Community Relations Department (CRD). This new department may duplicate the work of the National Integration Council (NIC) [what is NIC??? Never heard of it leh!!!]. This newly created CRD is supposed to help Singaporeans to develop a strong "sense of community responsibility and ownership" that extends beyond their own flats.....see how 'COOL' (bo chap) we are .

Does this mean that complainants on cats related issues will have another channel to pour out their grievances? And for the caregivers, hopefully that it will not be another bureaucracy, in addition to the town councils to tackle. Would this CRD be just an additional organisation to create more confusion and more pushing around of responsibilities?

OMG!!!

Dilemma

Dawn recently wrote in her blog that the left-leaning government in Andean country recently passed the world's first legislation prohibiting the use of live animals in circuses (see http://fe20.story.media.ac4.yahoo.com/news/story/maple/en-US/time/20091027/wl_time/08599193234300).

For most animals lovers this is a piece of great news but the problems that ensued is where do all these animals go then? This is also a big question for many cats and dogs fosters like me. My friends and I are co-catgivers in our our HDB estate. And from time to time we may encounter abandoned kittens which were too young to fend for themselves and we were then left with the task to foster them and to eventually find good homes for them.

About a year ago, a pair of non-sterilised siblings were dumped and caught by our town council. Luckily for them, the town council's property officer was compassionate and kind enough to give them to us instead of sending them to AVA for their death sentence.

As we were short of space at that time, we had them sterilised and released them into our colony of community cats. However, they went missing thereafter until about a few weeks later the male kitty turned up suddenly near our feeding area very emaciated. He was very scared and refused to eat and drink. Fearing for the worse, I brought him home and he thrived and became very manja in a home environment.

He was then adopted by a family who has a pair of young children and a persian cat. All went well for about a year until recently. The adopted family wanted to return him to us citing reasons that he was mischievous and liked to loiter in the corridor etc.

Worried that he might be dumped again we decided to take him back and just 1 week short of the due date, I got an sms saying that they wanted to continue keeping him as their children are very fond of him.

What are we to do? We are also in a dilemma too. Where are we going to place him if we insist on taking him back, though we are worried about his well being with the family? So the best option we have now is to let him stay with his family while we monitor his well being. If we were to take him back, we will either have to release him to our colony or to put him in a shelter where his quality of life would be compromised.

This really is it!!!!!! What else can we do???

Interesting Fact

I found out on Friday while playing Freekibble that Cats, Giraffes and Camels walk on both their left legs and right legs at the same time, ie. they will move both left legs and then follow by both right legs or vice versa.

This is such an interesting fact that I never notice though I have 2 cats of my own and I have been feeding the community cats for years. I bet many people do not have about this fact including cats owners like myself. Take a close look at your cat(s) now to find out the truth for yourself.

Freekibble is an online game where there is a section on questions for dog and another for cat. Just pick one of the answer which you think is correct from 4 choices and they will donate 10 kibbles to the animals in the shelter regardless whether the answer chosen is right or wrong. So please help the sheltler animals by playing the game daily. Here is the link http://www.freekibble.com/.
